Why You Shouldn't Put off Your Annual AC Inspection
Ensuring your air conditioning system is optimal becomes important as the summer heat approaches. Yet, you may not realize what this may have to involve.
Consideration: Professional AC Inspection
Regular professional air conditioning system inspections are crucial to its longevity and performance. Skilled experts may spot problems before they become catastrophic, preventing you from having to spend a lot of money on repairs or replacements. Moreover, inspections ensure that your unit operates at peak efficiency throughout the hot summer months.
Maintaining a comfortable and cozy home is your top priority. However, even the most reliable HVAC systems can encounter issues from time to time. Understanding these common problems and knowing when to seek the expertise of an HVAC contractor is key to keeping your home's climate control running smoothly. Here are some common HVAC problems that you may need to call an HVAC contractor to help repair.
Uneven Cooling or Heating
When you think of a central AC system, do you picture big, clunky ducts and large, rectangular vents? This is what's typical of a standard, central AC system. But these days, this is not the only kind of AC system to exist. Another option is high-velocity air conditioning. HIgh-velocity systems have thin tubes, not full-size ducts. The air emerges from small, round vents instead of big, rectangular ones.
So, when is a high-velocity air conditioning system a good choice?
There are too many people that make the mistake of assuming that since their furnace is turning on, it is not in need of anything. They might never even put too much into the furnace until something goes wrong and there is a breakage in the system. The thing is, you need to make sure that you are completing some residential heating maintenance on your furnace every year. This will help lengthen the life of the furnace and help reduce the number of problems it will give you over the years.
Gas furnaces depend upon an ignition system to ignite the fuel that will create the heat. Igniters can fail, though, which means you will need to have the ignition replaced if you want to heat your home.
1. Poor Heating
Poor heating can be a result of a variety of issues, but it is still one of the first symptoms of an ignition problem. When the ignition fails, the furnace may still run but there will be no hot air so only cold air will come from the vents.
I almost always have my air conditioner inspected every spring before I start using it in the summer. However, last year I decided to skip the inspection. Everything had been OK for the last couple of years, so I assumed that it would be fine this year as well. Why not save a few dollars and skip the annual check up, just this once?
Of course, this was the year that my air conditioner decided to break down. It ran for a few days, but it never really seemed to get cool enough to bring the indoor temperature down. Then it started making a loud noise, right before shutting off completely. By that time, the AC repair company was swamped like it always is when the weather is warm, and I had to wait days for an appointment. Next year, I will definitely be getting that yearly inspection first.
